Situado en el lado sur de la entrada del puerto de Mahón, este fuerte del siglo XVIII ofrece a los visitantes una visión de la ingeniería militar del siglo XVIII y de la necesidad del fuerte en una época en la que el puerto de Mahón era sin duda uno de los más codiciados del Mediterráneo occidental por las potencias extranjeras.

Toma su nombre de Sir John Churchill, duque de Marlborough, el más destacado general británico de la época y antecesor de Sir Winston Churchill, primer ministro británico durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.

El pequeño fuerte habría estado equipado con varios cañones de artillería para defenderse de un posible ataque enemigo. Actualmente, hay un montaje expositivo integrado en el recinto que explica la historia del fuerte, el turbulento siglo XVIII y el legado que dejó Gran Bretaña en Menorca. En los niveles superiores, también hay unas vistas excepcionales sobre la zona histórica del puerto.

Standing on the southern side of the entrance to Mahón harbour, this 18th-century fort offers guests an insight into military engineering in the 18th century and the necessity of the fort at a time when Mahón harbour was undoubtedly one of the most coveted in the western Mediterranean by foreign powers.

It takes its name from Sir John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, the most prominent British General of the time and a forefather to Sir Winston Churchill, Britain's Prime Minister during World War II.

The small fort would once have been equipped with several artillery guns for defending against possible enemy attack. Nowadays, there's an exhibition montage integrated in the enclosure that explains the history of the fort, the turbulent 18th century, and the legacy left by Britain in Menorca. On the upper levels, there's also exceptional views over the historic area of the harbour.
